If you’re a new mom having trouble getting your pre-baby body back, a mommy makeover may be right for you. Don’t feel like you are alone because many moms are left with some type of undesirable physical change after giving birth including sagging breasts, belly pooch, and stretch marks. A mommy makeover can get you back into shape, but you’ll need to know how to prepare for it.

You’ll need to make sure you fully understand the procedure you’ll be having by consulting with an experienced board-certified cosmetic surgeon. Your doctor will inform you of the different types of procedures as well as any medications or diagnostic tests you’ll need beforehand. He or she can also suggest additional treatments including liposuction. Here are a few things you can do to prepare.

  • Stop Smoking and Consuming Alcohol – This may be difficult for some, but if you’re a new mom hopefully you gave up smoking and drinking while you were pregnant and you can wait a bit longer until after your surgery. Smoking cigarettes can constrict your blood vessels and reduce the oxygen being delivered to your cells which can negatively impact your body’s healing abilities. Drinking alcohol also weakens your immune system and increases the risk of bleeding and complications.
  • Work on Your Health – It’s recommended that you wait a little while after giving birth to have a mommy makeover so your body can get used to no longer being pregnant. Get plenty of rest and activity if possible and take care of your health by eating right and avoiding stress as much as possible.
  • Get Assistance – Find someone who can help you during your recovery period after a mommy makeover. Your recovery period will be at least a full two weeks, with three weeks being recommended. The problem is that if you have a baby at home it’s hard to recover for that long. Get help from a nanny, a friend, or a family member. Arrange this before you go in for your mommy makeover.
