Facelift in Houston

Facelift Overview

A facelift is a surgical procedure that can help give you a more youthful, refreshed appearance with long-lasting results. It’s one of the most effective ways to correct sagging, loose skin and deep creases, lines, and wrinkles.

Dr. Do can help you look as young as you feel.

Facelift Benefits

A facelift reverses some of the most common and noticeable signs of aging, including:

  • Loose skin under the chin, which can create the appearance of a double chin
  • Sagging skin that leads to “jowls” (sagging jawline)
  • Deep creases below the lower eyelids
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Neck bands (deep lines on the neck)

If you’re unhappy with sagging skin, lines, wrinkles, or skin creases, a facelift can help you look and feel younger and rejuvenated.

Different Facelift Options

There are different types of facelifts. Which one is right for you will depend on the amount of aging, sagging, and looseness in each area of your face, and your goals. Dr. Do will counsel you on which procedure he believes will give you the best results.

  • Mini-facelift: A “short scar” or mini-facelift tightens sagging skin on the lower part of the face. The surgeon makes small incisions around the ears, which typically fade or disappear completely over time. A mini-facelift is best for people who have moderate skin sagging but minimal deep tissue sagging.
  • Full facelift: People with significant signs of aging and deep tissue sagging in the lower face will benefit most from a full facelift. It involves an incision that starts near the earlobe and curves along the inner edge of the ear and up into the hairline. The surgeon separates the skin from the underlying fat, muscles, and soft tissues and makes adjustments to strengthen the foundations of the face. A full facelift produces natural-looking and long-lasting results.

Customizing Your Facelift

Facelift surgery only improves the lower two-thirds of the face. If you have concerns in the upper part of the face—drooping eyelids, for example, you may consider an additional procedure, such as:

  • Neck lift: Even with the best skin care regimen, over time skin will begin to sag in the neck area. A neck lift is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess fat and tightening the underlying muscles around the neck. A neck lift can correct a “turkey wattle” and create a firmer, tighter appearance. The procedure is commonly performed in conjunction with a facelift or cheek lift.
  • Eyelid surgery: If you have sagging or excess/puffy skin around your eyes, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can help give you a more energized, alert appearance. This procedure is often performed in conjunction with a facelift.
  • Brow lift: Aging often causes the brows to move down, which can make you look tired, angry, or sad. A brow lift raises the eyebrows to create a refreshed appearance.
  • Chin and cheek augmentation: Chin and cheek implants can enhance facial definition and create more balanced facial contours.

Who Is a Candidate for a Facelift?

Healthy, non-smoking women and men of middle age and older who are concerned about sagging skin, jowls, and wrinkles are generally good candidates for facelift surgery. Women and men age 45 and older may be good candidates for a mini facelift to correct early signs of aging in the mid to lower face.

People who have lost a significant amount of weight may also benefit from a facelift to eliminate excess skin from the cheeks, jaws, and neck.

Men and women in their 20s and 30s are better suited to nonsurgical options, such as dermal fillers and BOTOX®.

It’s important for patients to have realistic expectations of what surgery can achieve. Dr. Do will walk you through available procedures and let you know what to expect. He may recommend a mini-facelift in Houston, a full facelift, or non-surgical options.

Facelift Recovery & Results

After your facelift procedure you can expect to have swelling and bruising, which will be most severe in the first 24-48 hours. The surgery team may give you a cooling mask to help relieve these symptoms. Depending on the procedure, Dr. Do may also place small tubes beneath your skin for a short time to help drain fluid. Bruising and swelling typically last around two weeks. In most cases, sutures are removed 5-7 days after surgery.

Most people can return to their normal activities within a few days to a week after surgery. You should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for 4-6 weeks after surgery. Dr. Do and his team will change your dressings, monitor your recovery, and counsel you about any post-surgery medications.

After you recover your skin should appear smoother, tighter, and more refreshed. Dr. Do strives to help patients achieve a natural look—your friends and family members may not be able to tell you’ve had surgery but may comment on your rejuvenated appearance.

How long do facelift results last?

It depends on which procedure you choose. The results of a short-scar or mini-facelift typically last 5-10 years with proper skin care (moisturizing skin, using sunscreen, eating a healthy diet, staying hydrated, etc.). The results of a full facelift may last even longer. The quality of your skin and underlying tissues and genetic factors will also partly determine how long your results last.

Are facelift scars noticeable?

Facelift scars often fade significantly or disappear over time. Even when scars are visible, they are usually not very noticeable. Dr. Do is skilled at concealing scars around the ear and near the hairline.

Will my face look tight and pulled?

We’ve all seen people who have aggressive facelift surgery that leaves them with a tight or “windblown” appearance. Facelift techniques have dramatically improved in recent years, with a greater emphasis on lifting and repositioning the underlying tissues rather than simply pulling the skin taut. Dr. Do is an experienced board-certified surgeon. He has performed hundreds of facelifts in Houston and uses his considerable knowledge and skills to produce natural-looking results.

What type of anesthesia is used in the surgery?

The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia but can be performed using a local anesthetic with intravenous sedation.

How much does a facelift cost?

The cost of a facelift in Houston varies but averages around $7,500. Depending on which facelift technique Dr. Do uses and whether you have additional procedures, your cost could be more or less than this. Dr. Do will need to meet with you for an in-person consultation to give you an idea of how much your procedure will cost. Aesthetic Surgery Institute believes all patients who are eligible for surgery and who want to look and feel better should have the procedure they desire. We offer financing to help you make your cosmetic goals a reality.

Is it possible to have a facelift without surgery?

Facelift surgery produces the most dramatic results, but many patients can also achieve significant facial rejuvenation without surgery. Dermal fillers, BOTOX, facial resurfacing, and other procedures are all possible options. Dr. Do will consult with you about whether non-surgical options are right for you.

How much younger will I look after a facelift?

No two patients are exactly alike, but on average, patients look 7-10 years younger after a facelift procedure. Injectables, such as Juvéderm or BOTOX, can address forehead lines, plump lips, and improve facial contours, complementing a facelift procedure.
