Thigh Lift Surgery in Houston, TX

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure to improve the shape and size of the thigh by removing fat and excess skin. Loose, sagging skin on the thighs can make you feel self-conscious. A thigh lift can help smooth and contour your thighs, greatly enhancing their shape and overall appearance.

Dr. Do is a double board-certified cosmetic surgeon in Houston with years of experience performing thigh lift surgery (thighplasty) along with a full suite of surgical and non-surgical procedures.

Types of Thigh Lift Surgery

There are several thigh lift techniques:

  • Inner/Medial Thigh Lift: An inner thigh lift helps eliminate excess fat and skin from the inner thighs and can also reduce sagging skin caused by aging or weight loss. It’s the most popular type of thigh lift. The surgeon makes an incision in the groin fold, so there’s less visible scarring. It’s best for people with a moderate amount of skin and fat in the thigh area.
  • Bilateral/Outer Thigh Lift: A bilateral thigh lift helps tighten the skin on the front and outside of the leg. The surgeon makes an incision from the groin that extends around the hip. He then removes any excess skin or fat, pulls the skin taut, and closes the incisions. The surgical team will wrap the area in a bandage or compression garment to reduce swelling.
  • Extended/Vertical Thigh Lift: A vertical thigh lift can help eliminate excessive amounts of fat and loose skin from the thighs. The surgeon makes a vertical incision from the groin crease down to the inner knee, removes a wedge of skin from the inner thigh and closes the incision. An extended/vertical thigh lift is best for people who have a larger amount of fat and loose skin (g., after a dramatic weight loss).
  • Spiral Thigh Lift: A spiral thigh lift is a newer technique that helps target all areas of the thigh—front, back, inner, and outer. It’s most appropriate for people who have lost an excessive amount of weight through bariatric surgery or a diet and exercise program. The surgeon makes one or more incisions and surgically removes fat and tissue deposits. He may use liposuction to remove larger amounts of fat. Next, the surgeon will pull taut and trim the skin as needed to give it a smooth appearance. The surgical team then closes the incisions and wraps the thighs with compression garments, which will help ensure an even contour as the skin heals. A spiral thigh lift usually done in 2-3 hours.

Dr. Do will discuss which procedure is right for you based on your medical history and aesthetic goals.

Thigh Lift Surgery After Weight Loss

Thigh lifts have become especially popular since the introduction of bariatric weight loss surgery. Rapid weight loss from bariatric procedures like gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgery can leave you with loose, sagging skin.

Aside from being unsightly, excess skin can also cause chafing, which can lead to rashes and, in severe cases, infections. Thigh lift surgery helps lift and reshape your skin for a smoother, tighter appearance.

If you’ve lost a large amount of weight (with or without surgery) and are at or near your ideal weight, thigh lift surgery can dramatically improve the tone and shape of your thighs.

You deserve a body that makes you feel good—inside and out!

Am I a Good Candidate for Thigh Lift Surgery?

You’re a good candidate for the procedure if you:

  • Have unwanted loose, sagging skin in the thighs
  • Are at a stable weight and have reached your weight loss goals
  • Are in generally good health
  • Do not drink heavily or smoke
  • Are not on blood-thinning medications (g., non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, warfarin, etc.)
  • Will commit to maintaining a healthy lifestyle after the procedure
  • Are in good psychological health

Thigh Lift Surgery Risks

As with any surgery, thighplasty comes with some risks. These include:

  • Infection
  • Contour irregularities (bumpy or wavy-looking skin due to uneven fat removal or unusual healing)
  • Fluid accumulation under the skin
  • Nerve irritation or damage in the treated area
  • Fat embolism (a medical emergency that occurs when a piece of loose fat breaks off and enters a blood vessel)
  • Lidocaine toxicity

Choosing a knowledgeable, well-trained surgeon, like Dr. Do, will help greatly minimize these risks.
