A facelift can reduce sagging skin on the face and neck, helping these
areas to appear firmer and fresher. Your bone structure, heredity and
skin texture all play a role in how many "years" a facelift
can "remove" and, to some extent, influence how long will it last.
Before Facial Surgery
We will evaluate your medical history in order to determine your overall
health. Our objective is to create a natural appearance that is pleasing
to you. We will discuss with you how your face can look and what you can
expect from surgery. Before and after photographs will reveal what the
surgery has accomplished.
Preoperative Instructions : Avoid drugs that contain aspirin several weeks
prior to surgery. You will be prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection.
You may be instructed to shampoo your hair the night before surgery. Shaving
of head is not required.
Q: How is Facelift surgery performed?
A: The Face Lift procedure, also known as Rhytidectomy, involves separating
the facial skin from the underlying fat and muscle layer, tightening of
facial muscle layer (SMAS) and removing the excess skin. The incisions
are placed within the hairline starting at the temples, running just in
front of the ear and continuing around the bottom of the ear lobe &
going behind the ear into the hairline. All incisions are placed in a
manner so that they are nearly invisible on healing. The skin is pulled
in backward & upward direction; excess skin removed, facial muscle
layer tightened and wound is closed with fine sutures. A small drain is
placed under skin to avoid collection of blood or serum. The final result
is a lift of sagging components of face with smoother, tighter skin.
Q: What other procedures can be combined with facelift surgery?
A: Excess skin and wrinkling of the neck also gets corrected in same sitting
by additional neck-lift procedure. A Face-lift will not remove forehead
lines, bags under the eyes or crow’s feet. The eye bags can be treated
at the same time with eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty. Forehead lines,
crow feet lines and brow sagging can be corrected with BOTOX injection
Q: What type of anaesthesia is used in the surgery?
A: The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia but can
be performed using a local anesthetic with intravenous sedation.
After facelift surgery, you will experience temporary skin discoloration
and some tightness or numbness in the face and the neck. Healing is gradual,
so expect to wait several months for optimal results. Since your skin
will remain somewhat sensitive for a few months, protection from the sun,
including daily use of a sun block, is essential. You can wear cosmetics
shortly after surgery.
