Going Back to Work After Breast Augmentation Surgery

If you’re considering breast augmentation surgery, one thing you’ll need to think through is when you’ll be able to go back to work after the surgery is complete. Most patients who undergo these types of procedures will experience mild to moderate pain for the first few days. Some women have found that it’s possible to do some work, however strenuous activities should be avoided for at least three weeks.

For those without physically demanding jobs, the average time it takes to get back to work is about one week. Women with jobs that require them to physically move around or lift and carry heavy items may need to wait another week or two so they can be sure to avoid swelling and other side effects. Those with desk jobs should plan on one week’s recovery time off of work after breast augmentation surgery.

One way to help your body recover faster from surgical trauma is to do your best to avoid or minimalize physical and emotional stress. Many patients find themselves working part-time until their energy levels get back to normal, which can take up to a month. During this time, it’s normal to go to bed early because it’s easier to tire out and you may require more rest.

While it’s important to get rest after your surgery, prolonged immobility is not recommended as it can lead to complications like blood clotting in the legs, chronic fatigue, persistent swelling, weight gain, and can delay your recovery. Short walks are recommended several times a day to help promote circulation.

When to return to work after your breast augmentation surgery depends on a number of factors including the type of work you do and how you’re feeling. Consult with your doctor if you have any questions and be sure not to push yourself and return too soon. For more information, contact Aesthetic Surgery Institute by calling 713-493-7397.
